Sports Desk: Captain Dean Elgar struck 60 not out as South Africa reached 95-0 at lunch on day of the opening Test against Bangladesh at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban today.

His opening partner Sarel Erwee was batting with him on 32 at the first interval of the day.

After being sent to bat first, South Africa looked happier side as they came down heavily on Bangladeshi bowlers, who also helped the hosts' cause by bowling down the leg side more often.

Bangladesh bowlers in fact failed to create any chance for most part of the first session. The only chance came in the last over in the morning session when offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz's extra bounce baffled Erwee who top-edged one but wicket-keeper Liton Das failed to grab the catch.

Earlier the match began after a 35-minute delay due to the sightscreen issue. South Africa, whose seven first choice players opted out the Test series in a bid to play IPL, handed debut two players and fielded a number of inexperienced players.

Bangladesh came to play the Test high on confidence after clinching their first ever ODI series victory on South African soil by 2-1.
