Dhaka: Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said increasing milk production and self-sufficiency in fish, meat and eggs are the unique achievements of farmers. Thanks to the relentless work of farmers, the country has achieved self-sufficiency in fish, meat and eggs today and will soon become self-sufficient in milk.

She was speaking as the chief guest at a meeting of cow lovers organised by Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association at LD Hall of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Saturday.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid MP, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Zahid Ahsan Russel MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Estimated Accounts Dr. Md. Abdus Shahid MP also spoke on the occasion as special guests.

The speaker said it is possible to revive the dairy and meat industries by creating self-employment. If farmers are encouraged, they will be inspired and the country's nutritional needs will be met.

The manpower in the livestock sector plays a positive role in the development of the country. Therefore, the government is working to restore normalcy in the industry by eliminating marketing barriers, increasing milk storage capacity and properly distributing government incentives to farmers for corona related losses, she added.
