She said: “This is the symbol [boat] that brought you the right to speak in your mother tongue and Bangladesh had achieved its independence by casting votes for the symbol.”
“So, I'm urging you all to cast your votes for Awami League so that we can keep continuing the ongoing progress,” she added.
The prime minister made the remarks while addressing a public rally in Pabna district on Saturday.
Called upon the people of the country, she said: “Do not to forget ‘boat', the election symbol of Awami League, in the coming days as it has continued to ensure peace, prosperity and development of the country.”
Terming Awami League as an organisation that belongs to common people, Hasina said the country witnessed massive development whenever the party assumed office as it brought the country’s independence.
Referring to the “corruption and misrule” during the BNP regime, she further said: “The BNP had grabbed power looted everything, created militancy and unleashed terrorism. But, there’ll be no place for them.”
“BNP chief Khaleda Zia is serving her jail time for misappropriating the funds allocated for the orphans. She was not convicted due to any political vengeance, rather she was sentenced to imprisonment for committing corruption,” she added
She continued if those who resorted to corruption and misrule are brought to power again the country will be ruined completely.
“So, cast your vote for boat and we shall build a secular and democratic Bangladesh. We shall bring down the price of essentials, increase power generation, make education up to degree level free, give agricultural subsidies and ensure community health care facilities,” the PM stated.
Noting that the Awami League wants to give something to the country, she said: “Give us a chance to serve you and the country. We shall build a developed Bangladesh where none will starve or live without clothes, education, housing and healthcare facilities.”
