Dhaka: A case has been filed over the sexual harassment of a college girl by the 7th March rally goers at Banglamotor intersection.
The father of the victim filed the case with Ramna Police Station on Thursday night, a day after the incident happened.
Ramna Police Station OC Kazi Mainul Islam confirmed the news.
The news of the sexual harassment of several numbers of girls and women went viral on social networking sites on Wednesday evening soon after the college girl posted a status on her Facebook page. Later the same night, several numbers of other girls also came up with the same complaint.
Soon after the status of went viral, the victim removed it from her timeline citing that it was being used politically.
But in face of public anger, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday evening said drives are underway to arrest the molesters.
In small processions, people from across the city joined the ruling party rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan orgainised on Wednesday marking the historic March 7.
A group of people from a procession molested the college girl at Banglamotor intersection while many took still and video footages of the incident on their mobile phones.
Later, the victim posted a status on his Facebook account describing the trauma she underwent.
The post reads: “Could not catch a bus even after waiting for one hour at Shantinagar intersection. Went to Banglamotor on foot only to find myself among the rally goers. Around 15-20 people surrounded me…many were trying to take video clips and still photos of a girl in a college uniform being harassed. The button of my uniform tore off and the scarf was removed. They slapped me… my two hands couldn’t save myself from so many hands. A police officer rescued me and helped me find a bus….there’s no bruise in the body except severe pain. I’m mentally horrified but physically fit. I won’t stay in the country of those who molest a girl shouting ‘Joy Bangla’. Won’t stay. Won't stay….”
