Dhaka: Police have launched baton charges to disperse BNP leaders and activists at the capital’s Nayapaltan political office and detained eleven party men on Saturday.

The members of the law enforcement agencies have charged baton on them when they gathered to take part in its scheduled programme to show ‘black flag’ around 11am.

On February 21, BNP announced that the party will show ‘black flags’ protesting the denial of permission for holding rally demanding release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

The party sought permission from the authorities concerned to hold the rally in Dhaka on February 22 but the authorities denied.

On February 8, a special court handed down five-year imprisonment to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia after convicting her in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Khaleda’s son Tarique Rahman and four others have also been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the same case.
