Bangladeshi-origin Labour Party candidates Tulip Siddiq, Rushanara Ali and Rupa Haq have been re-elected from their respective constituencies.

Tulip, the granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, retained her Hampstead and Kilburn seat with a 26.6% majority in the 2017 polls.

Rushanara Ali has won from Bethnal Green and Bow with 42,969 votes. The turnout for Bethnal Green and Bow was 69.84%.

Rupa Huq has been re-elected as MP for the Ealing Central & Acton seat bagging 13,807 more votes than her Conservative rival Joy Morrissey.

Prime Minister Theresa May had unexpectedly called the snap election seven weeks ago, even though no vote was due until 2020.

The Conservatives leader sought to a stronger mandate to conduct Brexit talks but instead weakened her party’s grip on power through the election.

Latest BBC forecast says the Conservatives have failed to win an overall majority, and that the UK is now set for a hung parliament.
