US President Donald Trump will attend the summit, among others
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) from May 20-22, to attend the Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh on May 21.
Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saudhas sent a message to the Bangladesh prime minister inviting her to join the summit to be hosted by his country, a senior Foreign Ministry official said on Sunday as quoted by UNB.
The official, however, did not elaborate on whether Sheikh Hasina had any other engagements during her stay in the KSA.
On May 12, Saudi Speaker Dr Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh mentioned the upcoming Arab Islamic American Summit during a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, and hoped that the leadership of the Muslim Ummah would engage constructively for peace and stability in the region.
The focus of the summit will be on ways to enhance cooperation between the United States of America (USA) and Muslim countries in the fight against extremism and militancy.
US President Donald Trump will attend the summit, among others. This will be Trump’s first visit to the KSA since he assumed the office as the 45th President of the USA last January.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir recently said US President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia would include a bilateral summit, a meeting with GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) leaders and another with leaders of Arab and Islamic countries.
“It’s a very clear message to the world that the US and the Arab and Islamic countries can form a partnership. This visit will enhance, we believe, cooperation between the US and Arab and Islamic countries in combating terrorism and extremism,” Al-Jubeir was quoted as saying in a statement by UNB.
