Rizvi15Dhaka desk: BNP on Saturday alleged that the government is making a mockery with the helplessness of flood victims in the country's Haor areas as it is not taking any effective step to address their sufferings.

“Please, don't make mockery with hunger and helplessness of people. Stand beside the flood victims in Haor areas with effective steps,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks at the party's Nayapaltan central office.

The BNP leader alleged that the government has entrusted the ruling party leaders with the responsibility of making the list of flood-affected farmers in Haor areas in the country's six districts.

He said Awami League leaders are including the names of their party men in the list as per their wish. “We fear lakhs of affected farmers will remain out of the list as it is being made by AL men on political consideration.”

The BNP leader alleged that the government has created a scope for the local ruling party men to indulge in corruption by giving them the responsibility of preparing the list of the flood victims.

He criticised Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader for his comment that BNP leaders went to the flood-hit areas for having photo sessions, saying his remark is a travesty of truth.

Rizvi said their party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited the victims in Netrakona and distributed relief materials among them on behalf of party when flood first hit the haor areas of the district.

Besides, he said, BNP vice chairman Selima Rahman visited Kishoreganj and carried out relief activities on Thursday. “Our party's relief committee convener Abdullah Al Noman was barred by local administration from visiting Sunamganj haor areas. The government is obstructing us from distributing relief when people are screaming for food.”

The BNP leader claimed also claimed that their party's local leaders are carrying out relief activities in the flood-affected areas.

He urged the government not to prevent the opposition parties and their activists from distributing relief among the flood victims.UNB.
