Sports desk: All round performance from Dhaka Dynamites players enabled them to record a 32-run victory over defending champions Comilla Victorians in the 27th match of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 held on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
Chasing Dhaka's 170 runs total, Comilla Victorians fell short as they were restricted at 138 from their allotted 20 overs. The Comilla's batsmen failed to build any effective partnership to chase the target losing wickets at regular intervals in the face of tight bowling display by the Dhaka's bowlers.
Chasing defending champions lost their top four batsmen inside 14 overs as they were tottering at 91 for 4. Opener Khalid Latif contributed 38 runs while Pakistani recruit Ahmed Shehzad added 22 for Comilla to keep their hope alive.
But wickets fell at regular interval as Dhaka bowlers kept the tight leash not to allow Comilla batsmen to have their way.
Dwayne Bravo was the most successful bowler for Dhaka as he claimed three wickets conceding 32 runs.
This match was almost a do or die match for reigning champions Comila Victorians who are passing through worst times in this ongoing fourth season of BPL While Dhaka had to win to remain in contention for top two places.
Earlier, captain's knock by Shakib Al Hasan powered Dhaka Dynamites to post a challenging total of 170 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs, after Dhaka Dynamites won the toss and decided to bat first.
The ace allrounder Shakib hammered 41 off 26 hitting four boundaries and one over boundary to take his side to a commanding position to remain unbeaten till the end of innings, after Sri Lankan duo Kumar Sangakkara (33), Mahala Jayawardene (31) and along with Mehedi Maruf (22) good start to Dhaka.
Rashid was the pick of Comilla bowler as he bagged two wickets giving away 26 runs.
