‘Oggatonama (The Unnamed)', a Tauquir Ahmed directed movie based on the man power export and the miserable lives living by the Bangladeshi workers in the Middle East is going to represent Bangladesh in the foreign movie category of the 89th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars.
Bangladesh Federation Film Societies announced the news in a press briefing held on September 26 at a restaurant in Karwan Bazar at the capital. The chairmen of Oscar Bangladesh Committee Habibur Rahman Khan informs the media that the movie was selected because the story coincides the reality of the human trafficking and illegal immigrant issues of the contemporary world, which is similarly going around the globe. Abu Musa Debu, film director Delwar Jahan Jhontu and film critique Shamim Akhter were present at the press conference among others.
Tauquir Ahmed informed that he is happy that the film is going to represent Bangladesh in one of the prestigious award ceremony in the world. The movie tells about the story of the poor people who go abroad, especially to the Middle East, to fulfill their dream of being economically well-off. More than 10 million Bangladeshi are working abroad. Most of this people are half or unskilled. Young men and women labors are thus cheaper from others, often they are low waged (sometimes less than 200 dollars per month) and deprived from basic human rights. Health and l

iving standards are also poor.
The goal of this movie was to address the underlying flaws of the export process resulting in illegal human trafficking, faking identities, sub human standard of life in abroad, deprivation of human rights and abuses. The story of the film circles around the dead body of an expatriate worker comes from Middle East; the identity of the person was manipulated in the process of overseas employment. It creates a puzzle for the police. Solving the identity puzzle his family collects the coffin but the identity crisis becomes intense when they find somebody else's corpse inside.
Like every year, this year also the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies formed a 9 member jury board to nominate films that will join in the foreign film category in Oscars. A total of four movies participated in the selection round. The films are Tauquir Ahmed's ‘Oggatonama', Meher Afroz Shaon's ‘Krishnapakkha', Sumon Dhor's ‘Dorpone Bisorjon' and KhonaTalkies's produced and Rubaiyat Hossain's directed film ‘Under Construction'.
