\"\"Dhaka:<\/strong> Today is the 42nd Homecoming Day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.<\/p>\n

This day in 1981, Sheikh Hasina returned home from India after nearly six years in exile following the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975.<\/p>\n

Both the two daughters of Bangabandhu — Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana — survived the history\u2019s most barbaric carnage as they were in Germany at that time.<\/p>\n

On this day, Dhaka turned in to a city of processions. Tens of thousands of people, shouting the immortal slogan — Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu — thronged the capital, braving storm and heavy rain to have a glimpse of Sheikh Hasina.<\/p>\n

Then Kurmitola Airport and Sher-e-Banglanagar turned into a human sea to welcome Sheikh Hasina, who was elected Awami League president in her absence at the party\u2019s national council session held on February 14-16 in 1981.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve returned to the country not to be a leader of Awami League but to join the struggle for freedom staying by the people,\u201d Sheikh Hasina said a hearty reception accorded to her by nearly 1.5 million people at the airport.\u201cI want to stay by you as your sister, as your daughter, and as a worker of Awami League, who believes in the ideals of Bangabandhu,\u201d she told the mammoth gathering,<\/p>\n

After returning home, Sheikh Hasina began her struggle to restore people\u2019s rights which was lost after Bangabandhu\u2019s killing.<\/p>\n

In her long political career, she guided the Awami League to assume office in 1996, 21 years after the assassination of Bangabandhu. Her party again came to power in 2008 and continued in the office for the consecutive third term through January 5, 2014 and December 30, 2018 national polls.<\/p>\n

Bangladesh has reached new heights as the country has attained the status of a developing country from the least development due to her prudent and dynamic leadership.<\/p>\n

Awami League, its associate bodies and like-minded socio-cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.<\/p>\n

Special doa and prayer sessions will be held at mosques, temples, churches and pagodas across the country on the occasion.<\/p>\n

Awami League will organise a discussion at 11:00am at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital, marking the day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
