\"\"Dhaka:<\/strong> Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said the provision regarding MPs' non-participation in the campaign of local government elections is discriminatory.<\/p>\n

\u201cLawmaker Shamim Osman has declared that he would work in favour of the ‘Boat' (the electoral symbol of Awami League) in Narayanganj City Corporation polls. I think that it is the right decision. But, I saw that some media have claimed that he (Shamim Osman) violated the electoral code of conduct,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u00a0According to the electoral code of conduct of the Election Commission,\u00a0lawmakers cannot take part in any local government elections. But, there are\u00a0no such types of code of conducts in neighbouring countries even in Europe,”\u00a0he continued.<\/p>\n

The minister stated these replying to a query of the reporters at his\u00a0official residence situated in the city'sMintu Road area.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Mentioning that lawmakers of other countries can take part in the\u00a0electioneering, Hasan said, “Even, the chief ministers and minister of the\u00a0neighbouring country can take in polls campaign without protocol.”<\/p>\n

He said these types of restrictions were not even in 2015 and many claimed\u00a0that the provision is undemocratic.<\/p>\n

“The issue was brought under the notice of the commission many times from\u00a0our party (Awami League). Even, I was present at some meetings,” said Hasan,\u00a0also AL joint general secretary.<\/p>\n

Replying to another query over a comment of BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi\u00a0on the COVID19 issue, the minister said it has seemed that BNP leaders have\u00a0lost their sagacity after failing to countenance Awami League politically so\u00a0they are now talking nonsense.<\/p>\n

He said many countries even the neighbouring countries could not deal with\u00a0the ongoing COVID 19 situation like Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

The role of the Prime Minister was lauded across the globe and the\u00a0country's economy is still boosting due to appropriate measures in\u00a0controlling the COVID 19 epidemic, he added.<\/p>\n

The minister said the position of Bangladesh is the third among the 20\u00a0countries which could be able to keep positive GDP growth in the last year\u00a0amidst the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Uttering that BNP leaders spread confusions over COVID19 inoculation though they took the jabs, Hasan said, “We want their sound health and hope that they would also take booster dose,” he added.<\/p>\n

He said the countrymen have refused the destructive politics of BNP. They\u00a0(BNP) took shelter of destructive politics in 2013, 2014 and 2015 when they\u00a0killed people through arson attacks.<\/p>\n

Hasan said the people of Bangladesh have refused their destructive\u00a0politics and they would resist them if they (BNP) want to carry out such\u00a0types of destruction again.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the minister virtually addressed the function of distributing\u00a0sheep and construction materials among the ethnic groups, bicycles and\u00a0scholarships among students under special assistance of the Prime Minister's\u00a0Office, awards among the winners and the vaccination programme for the 12- year to 18-year students of his own constituency Ranguniya Upazila.<\/p>\n

Ranguniya Upazila chairman Swajan Kumar Talukder, AL Upazila unit general secretary and Razanagar Union Parishad chairman Shamsher Alam, AL leader Akthar Hossain and Freedom Fighter Khairul Bashar, among others, addressed the function with Upazila nirbahi officer Ifthekhar Younus in the chair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
