\"\"Dhaka:<\/strong> Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Sunday said the government is not thinking about lockdowns at this moment but will follow the same procedures keeping passengers limited in all types of transports.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll reduce the number of passengers everywhere that we did during the earlier period. We\u2019ll follow the same procedures. We\u2019re not thinking of lockdown. The good news is that the fatality rate due to Omicron is very low. So, we\u2019re not thinking of a lockdown,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Minister said they will discourage travels through Bangladesh-India border on health safety grounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven, there\u2019re travels through borders; there should be more health safety measures. Hopefully, we\u2019ll be able to protect our people,\u201d Dr Momen said.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Minister made the remarks while talking to reporters after the formal inauguration of booster Covid-19 vaccine doses for the diplomats stationed in Dhaka at Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute & Hospital in the city.<\/p>\n

Dr Momen said he is very delighted that they could arrange this special vaccination programme for all the diplomats in Dhaka and their dependents. \u201cOur programme is an ongoing one.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the government has got a lot of competencies in terms of vaccination though initially they had \u201csome difficulties\u201d in terms of vaccines' supply.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very thankful that so many countries came forward and those countries have been donating vaccine doses under the COVAX facility,\u201d said the Foreign Minister.<\/p>\n

He said they have plenty of vaccines\u2019 supply and till today they have around 310 million vaccines lined up. \u201cSo, we\u2019re okay. Hopefully, we\u2019ll provide vaccines to every individual.\u201d<\/p>\n

The government has a plan to cover 80 percent of people with Covid-19 vaccination including 12 years and plus students.<\/p>\n

Talking about the booster vaccine doses, the Foreign Minister said, \u201cI\u2019m so glad we could manage it. It has been possible because of our partnership and cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said this particular pandemic is such a thing that they cannot handle it alone. \u201cWe\u2019ve to manage this challenge through partnership and collaboration. I\u2019m very thankful that so many countries came forward to help us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Momen said the government is trying its best but still has a long way to go as a new variant “Omicron” emerged.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo far we\u2019re okay but we must protect ourselves. I would ask everyone to maintain health and safety measures as much as you can,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
