\"\"Dhaka:<\/strong> President M Abdul Hamid paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by placing wreath at the National Memorial in Savar on the outskirts of the capital early today marking the 51st\u00a0 Victory Day.<\/p>\n

The head of the state placed the wreath at the altar of the National Memorial at about 6:30am followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Rehana, the younger daughter of country\u2019s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and prime minister\u2019s younger sister, was also present there.<\/p>\n

After placing wreath, the president stood in solemn silence for a while as a mark of deep respect to the memories of the martyrs of the Liberation War in 1971.<\/p>\n

A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force presented the state salute on the occasion, as the bugles played the last post.<\/p>\n

The president also signed the visitors\u2019 book kept on Memorial premises.<\/p>\n

Later, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and leaders of different political as well as socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the National Memorial.<\/p>\n
