\u201cDue to the skilled and visionary leadership of the prime minister, the country has now become a role model of development in the world. Today, it is recognised globally,\u201d he said while taking part in general discussion in the House, marking the golden jubilee of the country\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n

Hasan, also the Awami League joint general secretary, said US President Joe Biden, in his message sent on the occasion of Mujib Year, mentioned Bangladesh as an example of development in the world.<\/p>\n

Besides, he said, the World Bank president termed Bangladesh a role model of development.<\/p>\n

Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday brought a motion under the parliamentary rules of procedure 147 to hold a general discussion on the golden jubilee of the country\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n

Hasan took part in the discussion on the motion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been working to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh that sets an example of intellectual thoughts and humanity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

That is why a generation having intellect, thoughts, human values and modern knowledge must be built, the information minister said, adding that the government is working towards achieving this goal under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.<\/p>\n

Referring to the development and progress that took place in the country in the last 13 years, he said Bangladesh today is far ahead of all other countries in the South Asia, including Pakistan, in development and social indicators.<\/p>\n

Even, Bangladesh has surpassed Pakistan in all the socioeconomic indexes, he added.<\/p>\n

Noting that Bangladesh was never independent before 1971, Hasan said the first \u201cnation-state of Bangalees\u201d was established only under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.<\/p>\n

Quoting a statement of communist leader Moni Singh issued on the occasion of the 53rd birthday of Bangabandhu in 1972, he said: \u201cMoni Singh said Bangabandhu in a letter in 1951 informed him that he (Bangabandhu) was going ahead with the plan for independence of East Bengal.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the information minister said, the poet of politics Bangabandhu continued to prepare the nation for independence in phases.<\/p>\n

He said Bangabandhu made the mindsets of people by presenting the Six-Point Demand, the charter of Bangalees\u2019 freedom.<\/p>\n

Following this, the \u201cnation-state of Bangalees\u201d was established through the mass 1969 upsurge, the 1970 election, the March 7 speech, the declaration of independence by the Father of the Nation on March 26 and the bloody war of liberation in 1971, Hasan said.<\/p>\n

He said after the country\u2019s independence, Bangabandhu had started working to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh but the killers did not let him do so.<\/p>\n

On August 15 in 1975, the greatest Bangalee of all time was killed along with most of his family members, he added.<\/p>\n

However, the information minister said, in 1974-75 the country's GDP growth was 9.59 percent and such growth has never been achieved till the date.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Bangabandhu had survived, it would have been possible to maintain this growth. And the country would have become a developed and prosperous one long ago,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Now the country is moving forward under the worthy daughter of Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and a developed and prosperous Bangladesh will be built under her leadership, Hasan said.<\/p>\n
