\"\"Dhaka:<\/strong> Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said that all development of the government would go in vain if discipline on roads is not restored.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow the main crisis is in discipline, transportations and roads. If we fail to restore discipline, all our development will go in vain. So our challenge is to bring order on the roads,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, said this while addressing a discussion titled \u2018Let us abide by speed limit, prevent road accident\u2019 at Sarak Bhaban\u2019s auditorium at Tejgaon industrial areas in the capital organized by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) marking National Road Safety Day-2021.<\/p>\n

Marking the day, BRTA, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, campaigners of road safety organizations have organized elaborate programmes on the day.<\/p>\n

The minister acknowledged that there are lack of discipline in transportation and roads and highways.
\n\u201cSo many roads, flyovers, underpasses, border roads and marine drives have been constructed in the country. Then why can't we bring order on the roads,\u201d he questioned.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not a matter of once a year (October 22) rather round the year, it is not only the responsibility to put up beautiful banners, posters and placards for one day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Talking over issuing licenses by BRTA, Quader said issuing of driving licenses have been stuck for a long time.
\n\u201cThousands of applications have been piled up in BRTA. It is necessary to clear the tangled situation even if you have to work on holidays,\u201d he said, adding that such tangled situation would not reoccur.<\/p>\n

Regarding the irregularities and corruption in the BRTA, Quader said that those who commit misdeeds and corruption should be brought to justice.<\/p>\n

Secretary of roads and highways division M Nazrul Islam presided over the meeting, among others, additional inspector general of highway police Mallick Faqrul Islam, Nirapad Sarak Chai chairman Ilias Kanchan and BRTA chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder were addressed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
