\"\"Dhaka:<\/strong> Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today urged the party leaders and workers to stand by the destitute people during the lockdown to be enforced from tomorrow to contain coronavirus infections.<\/p>\n

He made the call while speaking at a COVID-19 safety gears distribution progamme at the AL president's Dhanmondi political office through videoconferencing form his official residence.<\/p>\n

AL relief and social welfare subcommittee arranged the function to hand over COVID-19 safety goods to the representatives of 30 coronavirus-hit bordering districts of the country.<\/p>\n

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said politics is for the welfare of people and that is why Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working restlessly to bring smiles on their faces.<\/p>\n

Noting that coronavirus infection has reached an alarming level now, he said the high-level infections have spread from bordering districts to the capital and other rural areas.<\/p>\n

In such circumstances, the AL general secretary said, it is urgent for all to take optimum cautionary measures to protect their families from the invisible enemy.<\/p>\n

He said there is no alternative to wearing masks and following health guidelines to prevent coronavirus.<\/p>\n

Quader said as per the advice of experts, the government has decided to impose strict restrictions from July 1 to 7 to protect people and considering their welfare, everyone should stay at home during the period.<\/p>\n

Mentioning that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always takes right decisions in any crisis or disaster, he said all have to keep trust in the steps being taken by the premier to deal with the situation.<\/p>\n

The AL general secretary said Sheikh Hasina\u2019s government has successfully tackled the first wave of coronavirus managing the lives and livelihoods of people, and all should cooperate with the government in implementing its realistic steps taken to address the second wave of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

He said the leadership of Sheikh Hasina was lauded around the world for keeping the wheels of the country\u2019s economy smooth as well as preventing infections.<\/p>\n

But, he said, a political party has been making endless falsehood against the government without standing by people.<\/p>\n

BNP was spreading confusion among the people without creating awareness among them, the AL general secretary said, adding that they (BNP men) also carried out shameless falsehood against COVID-19 vaccines but now they are standing first in line to take vaccines.<\/p>\n

He said BNP continues propaganda to fade all the achievements of the AL government but the country\u2019s people have turned down their ill-efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cSheikh Hasina is the last resort of our trust\u2026the Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, faced many disasters in the past and now we will address the impacts of coronavirus with cooperation of all, InshaAllah,\u201d Quader said.<\/p>\n

Chaired by AL presidium member Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, the meeting was addressed, among others, by AL organising secretaries Mirza Azam and SM Kamal Hossain, its relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, science and technology affairs secretary Abdus Sabur, health secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, education and human resources secretary Samsunnahar Chapa and central executive member Syed Abdul Awal Shamim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
