{"id":61713,"date":"2020-08-17T15:37:08","date_gmt":"2020-08-17T15:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/?p=61713"},"modified":"2020-08-17T15:37:08","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T15:37:08","slug":"sc-upholds-hc-order-staying-trial-proceedings-of-4-cases-against-khaleda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/?p=61713","title":{"rendered":"SC upholds HC order staying trial proceedings of 4 cases against Khaleda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img class=\"wp-image-61714 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/tm-new-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"912\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/tm-new-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/tm-new-624x420.jpg 624w, https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/tm-new.jpg 669w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 912px) 100vw, 912px\" \/>Dhaka: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the High Court Division order that stayed trial proceedings in four sabotage cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A five-member bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hasan, issued the order after rejecting petitions filed by the state seeking cancellation of the HC order.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Bodruddoza Badal stood for Khaleda while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One of the cases was filed at Jatrabari Police Station and others at Darus Salam Police Station in January, February and March 2015 during a shutdown enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The High Court stayed trial proceedings of the cases on May 15 that year. Later, the state counsel filed petition against the HC order.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Former prime minister Khaleda was sent to Old Dhaka Central Jail since her conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a lower court on February 8, 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On March this year, the BNP chief was released from jail for six months upon an executive order considering her age and humanitarian ground following an application by her family.
