Dhaka: The United Nations and the World Health Organization have praised Bangladesh\u2019s fight against the deadly coronavirus so far as the Health minister reiterated Monday that the country is still in a \u201csafe condition\u201d as far as the number of cases detected so far.<\/p>\n
Health Minister Zahid Maleque also pointed out that the country has no shortage of coronavirus testing kits or other equipment to fight the contagious bug.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations secretary general praised our arrangements regarding the coronavirus. We have no deficiency of coronavirus testing kits and other necessary equipments,\u201d he said in a regular virtual press brief of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Monday.<\/p>\n
He also claimed that \u201cBangladesh is now in a safe condition regarding the coronavirus as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is guiding the measures to tackle the coronavirus situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope we will overcome the coronavirus situation as we took preparation long ago to face the situation,\u201d the health minister added. He also thanked different companies of the country those are assisting in tackling the coroanvirus.<\/p>\n
Zahid Maleque said the government is setting up 17 laboratories across the country to carry out coronavirus test of the suspected patients. He asked mass media not to give such information that may make people panicked about the coronavirus and not to give any news of deficiency of equipments related to coronavirus prevention and treatment.<\/p>\n
Addressing the press briefing, Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said a woman has been diagnosed with coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the number of the confirmed covid-19 cases to 49.<\/p>\n
However, the death toll from the disease has remained unchanged at five in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
\u201cFour more people have recovered in the past 24 hours. Of all the people infected with the virus, 19 people have returned home,\u201d the IEDCR director said.<\/p>\n
She said among the four recovered patients, one is a doctor, one nurse and an 80-year-old person.<\/p>\n
Dr Flora said the health directorate has tested 153 samples in the past 24 hours and a total of 1338 samples to diagnose with coronavirus patients.<\/p>\n
She urges people to stay inside home and not to go outside home and to follow the government\u2019s directives in a bid to check spread coronavirus in the country.<\/p>\n
Samples of a 45-year-old-man, who died with coronavirus-like symptoms in Bogura\u2019s Shibganj upazila on Friday, tested negative, said officials.<\/p>\n
A twelve-year-old, who was being treated at the isolation ward of Jashore General Hospital, died on Monday.<\/p>\n
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has established a \u201cfever clinic\u201d at Bangladesh Betar Bhaban in city\u2019s Shahbagh area.<\/p>\n
Physicians are regularly providing services at the \u201cclinic\u201d, set up at the ground floor of Betar Bhaban, BSMMU revealed this information in a press release.<\/p>\n
People who are suffering from fever, cold, and cough can get treatment at the establishment between 8:30am-2:00pm. Emergency services at the outdoors will remain open 8:00am to 2:30pm.<\/p>\n
The laboratory will be dedicated to running tests to detect Covid-19.<\/p>\n
