\"\"<\/a>NEW YORK \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Chancellor Richard A. Carranza today announced the launch of the 13th<\/sup>\u00a0annual NYC School Survey, available online and in print in ten languages for students, parents, and staff members to complete by April 3. One of the nation\u2019s largest annual surveys, the NYC School Survey gathers feedback aligned to the research-based\u00a0Framework for Great Schools<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>from all members of school communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NYC School Survey is a vital tool for us to hear directly from students, families and staff members about what they think is working and how we can improve in each and every one of our schools,\u201d said\u00a0Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI encourage our communities to complete the survey by April 3 so we can incorporate your feedback and continue our progress towards equity and excellence across our school system.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, a record 1,014,400 students, parents and staff members participated. It was the\u00a0second\u00a0consecutive\u00a0year that over half a million parents participated in the survey, and the third consecutive year that\u00a0participation exceeded one million responses.<\/p>\n

The NYC School Survey is designed in partnership with the Research Alliance for NYC Schools, and provides actionable information on school capacity that is aligned to the DOE\u2019s research-based\u00a0Framework for Great Schools<\/a><\/em>. The survey collects information about a school\u2019s capacity across six essential elements \u2013 Rigorous Instruction, Supportive Environment, Collaborative Teachers, Effective School Leadership, Strong Family-Community Ties, and Trust \u2013 that drive student\u00a0achievement.Research has demonstrated that schools strong on the elements of the\u00a0Framework<\/em>\u00a0are more likely to produce gains in attendance and student achievement.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur collaboration with the district on the Framework for Great Schools is a powerful example of research informing policy and practice,\u201d said\u00a0James Kemple, Executive Director of the Research Alliance for NYC Schools<\/strong>. \u201cThe Survey collects information about school characteristics and capacities that studies suggest are important for effective teaching and learning. We look forward to continuing our work together and urge teachers, students and parents to complete the Survey, so their perspectives are represented in the results.\u201d<\/p>\n

Starting this week,\u00a0families will receive a paper survey that will be backpacked home and distributed at school events. Parents may also choose to submit their feedback online at\u00a0NYCSchoolSurvey.org<\/a>. If parents do not have their paper survey form, they can use the code lookup tool on the survey login page to receive their unique access code and complete the survey. Students in grades 6 through 12 will receive and complete their surveys in school, either on paper or online, while school staff will take the survey online. All survey responses are due by April 3.<\/p>\n

The parent and student surveys are available both on paper and online at\u00a0NYCSchoolSurvey.org<\/a>\u00a0in 10 languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu.<\/p>\n

Results from the survey are included in each school\u2019s\u00a0School Quality Snapshot<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0School Quality Guide<\/a><\/em>. The\u00a0Snapshot\u00a0<\/em>is designed to give families a picture of the quality of each school available, and the\u00a0Guide\u00a0<\/em>provides\u00a0more detailed information and data. Both are now available as\u00a0searchable web-based,\u00a0mobile-ready\u00a0tools.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
