It was obvious in the last home series against Sri Lanka and Nidahas Cup Trophy, where in the performance of the fast bowlers was not up to the mark that was really a concern for the team management.

Bangladesh will play the bulk of their games at away condition in the next five years and so they needed to hone their fast bowling battery along with other departments to fight with the opponent sides. Prior to the next back-to-back away series against Afghanistan and then West Indies, all the quarters from selectors to the coaching staffs girded up their loins to bring consistency in every department.

“We have to bat, bowl and field well,” said Courtney Walsh, who will also guide Bangladesh in the next series against Afghanistan.

“The guys have to perform to the best of their ability. We have to show consistency, as much as we can,” Walsh told media before the first match scenario practice at the center wicket of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

West Indian pace-bowling legend said that their outlook will also be focused on Twenty20 cricket because they have to improve it after one-day and Test rankings prior to the next World T20, which will be held in 2020.

“We have to focus on that because the World T20s is not too far away. We need to get up in the rankings as well,” the fast-bowling coach said. “We can’t be complacent, and we have to go out and play good cricket. This series is very important to come out with a victory, to help us with the rankings as well,” he also said.

“It will also give us confidence going into the West Indies tour,” he added.

“I’d like to see the bowling department get a little bit more consistent, especially the fast bowlers. They have not been consistent over the last couple of tours. I’d like to see the quartet stand out together.”

“It is good to have [Saikat] back in the squad. He is a very exciting player. We know what he can do. It is an opportunity for him, if he gets the chance to play to prove his worth. He has good allround abilities.”

“The mood is very good. The guys are upbeat. We are getting excited as you get in the start of a tour. We are looking forward to the tour.

When asked about his coaching stint, the legend expressed his delight and said that, “I am very excited to be involved again.”

“We need to play a good style of cricket, like we did in Sri Lanka. We should improve in certain areas.” “Hopefully, we have a successful series. I think once we don’t get complacent and are focused on what we have to do, we will then be able to perform to the best of our ability,” he continued.

“They have quality players in the team but we will focus on our strengths and weaknesses. We’ll come up with a plan that suits us best. We will not be worried about them. If we do our best, we’re giving ourselves a chance,” he told.
