Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently in the US in connection with the 72nd UN General Assembly session, has undergone a successful gallbladder operation in Washington.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe underwent a successful gallbladder surgery at a Washington hospital at 8pm on September 25 (Bangladesh time 6am on September 26),\u201d her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS over phone from the US capital on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Karim said the prime minister was taken to the hospital after she suddenly felt pain in abdomen. Doctors conducted her health checkup and decided to perform the surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is now completely well after the successful operation \u2026 she sought \u2018dua\u2019 from the countrymen,\u201d he said, adding that she was taking rest as per the doctors\u2019 advice.<\/p>\n

The prime minister was released from the hospital a day after the surgery and she returned to her place of residence in Washington.<\/p>\n

Her younger sister Sheikh Rehana and son Sajeeb Wazed Joy were beside her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe prime minister will return home on October 5,\u201d Karim said.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Hasina reached Washington from New York on September 22 after attending the UNGA session. After staying in Washington for a week, she was scheduled to return home on October 2 via London.<\/p>\n
