Inaugurating an aesthetic 80km marine driveway in Cox\u2019s Bazar, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said it will unlock the potentials of the region enabling people to uplift their socioeconomic status and enjoy the natural beauty.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople will have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the nature alongside improving their socioeconomic condition,\u201d she said this on Saturday, after formally opening the marine driveway from Cox\u2019s Bazar to Teknaf.<\/p>\n

Bangladesh Army constructed the world\u2019s longest marine driveway under the supervision of Roads and Highways Department at the cost of Tk1,050 crore for protecting the Cox\u2019s Bazar seashore and facilitating an easy viewing of the beauty of the Bay of Bengal, reports UNB.<\/p>\n

The driveway will attract not only a huge number of domestic tourists, but also foreign ones, and it will help accelerate the socioeconomic development of the district, the premier hoped.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cCox\u2019s Bazar sea beach is the longest sandy sea beach of the world and people from home and abroad come here to enjoy the natural beauty.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government has undertaken a number of projects to make Cox\u2019s Bazar even more attractive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hasina informed that her government has been mulling over upgrading the Chittagong-Cox\u2019s Bazar highway into a four-lane one in an effort to make road journeys more comfortable for tourists.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a wide-bodied Boeing 737-800 aircraft landed at Cox\u2019s Bazar International Airport on Saturday\u00a0as the premier inaugurated an expanded runway at the airport for the movement of wide- bodied aircrafts, paving the way for the airport to start international flight operations.<\/p>\n

She also inaugurated several other development projects including of Cox\u2019s Bazar Medical College Hospital.<\/p>\n

Addressing a rally held by the district unit Awami League at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in the afternoon, Hasina said she had visited the beach with her parents in 1962 and 1964, adds our correspondent in Cox\u2019s Bazar.<\/p>\n
