Bangladesh is facing a considerable data gap for monitoring Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as statistics on over two-thirds of indicators are either partially available or not available at all, reveals a study.<\/p>\n

The General Economics Division (GED) of the Planning Commission in partnership with the Support to Sustainable and Inclusive Planning Project of the UNDP conducted the study styled \u201cData Gap Analysis for SDGs: Bangladesh Perspective,\u201d which will be released today.<\/p>\n

There are 241 indicators to monitor the 169 targets under 17 SDGs. But, data on only 70 indicators are readily available, 108 partially available and 63 not available at all, according to the study.<\/p>\n

The UN has globally set 230 indicators to monitor the SDGs. The GED has done the analysis using seven indicators twice and two indicators thrice, raising the total number of indicators to 241.<\/p>\n

Maximum data can be found for SDG 1, 2, 5, 7, 9 and 17, whereas overall attainment of the goals will be taken into account to assess progress towards the SDG implementation.<\/p>\n

The UNDP in a press release said the BBS should take the core responsibility to generate national statistics and set a framework with the ministries and divisions concerned for ensuring the availability, authenticity and reliability of administrative data.<\/p>\n

Producing disaggregated data might be a challenging task. Nonetheless, efforts should be undertaken to generate high-quality, timely and reliable data disaggregated primarily by gender, age, income and geographic location, it stressed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
