{"id":30608,"date":"2017-02-11T22:27:04","date_gmt":"2017-02-11T22:27:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/?p=30608"},"modified":"2017-02-11T22:27:04","modified_gmt":"2017-02-11T22:27:04","slug":"death-toll-rises-to-15-in-philippine-earthquake-hundreds-injured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/?p=30608","title":{"rendered":"Death toll rises to 15 in Philippine earthquake, hundreds injured"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img class=\"wp-image-30609 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/philipine4-300x169.gif\" alt=\"philipine4\" width=\"866\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/philipine4-300x169.gif 300w, https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/philipine4-768x432.gif 768w, https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/philipine4-696x392.gif 696w, https:\/\/en.bornomalanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/philipine4-747x420.gif 747w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 866px) 100vw, 866px\" \/>International Desk: The death toll from a powerful earthquake that rattled a southern Philippine city on Friday night has risen to at least 15, an official said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Matugas said that at least 100 residents had been injured in the magnitude-6.7 quake struck 10:03 p.m. Friday 14 km northwest of Surigao City in Surigao del Norte province.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Matugas confirmed in an earlier TV interview that four have indeed died in the quake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The government disaster agency in Manila has yet to issue official data of damage or casualty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Matugas said that the earthquake caused power outages in the city, destroyed the airport runway, bridges and buildings, including hotels and<br \/>\nschools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Already, airport authorities in Manila decided on Saturday to cancel flights going to Surigao City.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Tremors were felt in neighboring provinces such as southern Leyte, Mandate City, Butuan City, Tacloban and Cebu City, in the central Philippines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The institute has recorded at least 89 aftershocks after Friday's quake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While,the U.S. Geological Survey said the quake, measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale, struck at a depth of 27 km.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Some residents posted status on Facebook, saying they experienced power outages in the city. A Surigao-based television station posted pictures of a two-storey house with collapsed walls and a car with a fallen debris on top.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;Jesus Christ! That was a strong quake,&#8221; posted another male resident of the city named Ilmen Ronzkie.
